Quick answer: Most home RO purifiers in Pune need a service every 3–4 months, sooner on borewell or tanker water. Sediment and carbon filters need changing every 6–12 months and the RO membrane every 12–24 months. The usual repairs are no water or slow flow, leaks, rising TDS or a salty taste, bad smell, and a purifier that won't stop running. Send us your model and the problem on WhatsApp and we will tell you what the visit involves before we come.
A purifier rarely breaks suddenly. It slows down, the taste changes, or it starts dripping, and most people wait until it stops completely. By then, one overdue filter has often damaged the next stage. This guide helps you spot the early signs, try the simple checks yourself and know when to call a technician.
Seven signs your water purifier needs a service
- The tank takes much longer to fill, or the flow from the tap is weak.
- The water tastes salty, heavy or flat, or smells musty.
- The purifier keeps running and draining when the tank is full.
- Water drips under the unit or collects on the wall.
- The UV indicator is off, or a filter-change alert is on.
- The pump hums loudly or clicks on and off.
- It has been more than 4–6 months since the last service.
Checks you can do before calling a technician
Some "breakdowns" are simple supply problems. Try these first. Unplug the purifier before opening anything.
| Problem | Check yourself first | Call a technician if |
|---|---|---|
| No water at all | Is the inlet valve open? Is the overhead tank empty? Is the power socket working? | Supply and power are fine, but the purifier still won't start |
| Very slow filling | Has the society's water pressure dropped? Is the inlet pipe kinked? | Pressure is normal: the pre-filter or membrane is likely choked |
| Small leak | Push the visible pipe connectors firmly into place and close the inlet valve | It leaks from a housing or keeps dripping after re-seating |
| Salty or odd taste | Did your source change recently, for example from municipal to tanker water? | The taste stays the same for more than a day or two |
| Keeps running | Is the tap or outlet fully closed? | It still runs and drains with the tank full |

What a proper RO service visit includes
A service is more than swapping a filter. On every visit our technician:
- Measures input and output TDS, so you can see how well the RO membrane is working.
- Checks inlet pressure and pump pressure.
- Inspects the sediment, carbon and UF filters, and replaces only what is due.
- Cleans and sanitises the storage tank, which is often the dirtiest part of the purifier.
- Tests the UV lamp, adapter, float and solenoid valve.
- Checks every joint for leaks and resets the TDS controller.
- Writes down what was replaced and when the next service is due.
If a part needs replacing, we show you the old one and tell you the cost before fitting the new one.
How often should you service your RO purifier?
| Water source | Service visit | Pre-filters | RO membrane |
|---|---|---|---|
| PMC or PCMC municipal | Every 4–6 months | Every 9–12 months | Every 18–24 months |
| Mixed municipal and tanker | Every 3–4 months | Every 6–9 months | Every 12–18 months |
| Borewell or tanker only | Every 3 months | Every 6 months | Every 12 months |
These are typical figures for Pune homes. A family of five drinking and cooking with RO water will reach them sooner than a couple. Our filter and membrane replacement page explains what each stage does.
Water purifier installation, and moving to a new flat
A new purifier bought from us is installed as part of the price, usually in 45–90 minutes. Keep ready wall space near the sink, a power socket, access to the inlet line and a drain. If you bought a purifier online or from another shop, we can install that too.
Shifting flats is common in Pune, and it is when many purifiers get damaged. Before you move, close the inlet valve and drain the tank. Then disconnect the unit carefully, without pulling the pipes out of the fittings. At the new flat, ask for a fresh inlet connection and a TDS check, because the water source may be different. See our RO installation service for details.
Per-visit service or an AMC?
- Per-visit makes sense if you are on municipal water and need one or two services a year.
- An AMC makes sense if you are on borewell or tanker water, have a large family, or simply don't want to track filter dates. You get scheduled visits, filter changes as per the plan and priority support for breakdowns. See our RO AMC plans.
We service all major purifier brands, not only the models we sell. Spares and filters are stocked locally. See RO spare parts.

Frequently asked questions
How often should an RO water purifier be serviced?
Every 3–4 months for most Pune homes, every 3 months on borewell or tanker water, and every 4–6 months on steady municipal supply. Pre-filters usually last 6–12 months and the RO membrane 12–24 months.
Why is my RO purifier not giving water?
First check that the inlet valve is open, the overhead tank has water and the socket has power. If all three are fine, the usual causes are a choked pre-filter, a failed adapter or pump, or a stuck solenoid valve. A technician can find the cause in one visit.
Why is my RO purifier making noise?
A loud hum or frequent on-off clicking usually means low inlet pressure, a choked filter making the pump work harder, or a faulty pressure switch. Have it checked before the pump wears out.
Do you repair all brands of water purifiers in Pune?
Yes. We service and repair all major domestic RO brands across Pune and PCMC, and stock filters, membranes, UV lamps, adapters and pumps locally.
Can you uninstall and reinstall my purifier when I shift flats?
Yes. We can disconnect your purifier before the move and reinstall it at the new flat, with a fresh inlet connection and a TDS check, because the water source there may be different.
